The health and wellbeing of students and staff are embedded within Al-Ameed University’s mission to support academic achievement, personal development and a positive university experience. As a predominantly health-focused institution, the University integrates healthcare, health education, preventive awareness and psychological support within its academic and institutional environment.
Throughout the 2024/2025 academic year and 2025, this commitment was reflected through accessible healthcare services, health education, counselling and wellbeing programmes designed to support students and staff throughout university life.
Healthcare and Reproductive Health Education for Students
Students have access to an on-campus health clinic for a broad range of health concerns. Where specialist or emergency care is required, referral to external healthcare institutions is facilitated, while an on-site ambulance supports the immediate transfer of urgent cases to nearby hospitals.
Health education is also integrated into the University’s academic environment. Through the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and other health-related disciplines, students engage with areas of reproductive and women’s health through education, clinical training, research and awareness activities.
During 2025, this included clinical education and assessment in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, student research addressing fertility and IVF, clinical exposure in maternity-related healthcare settings, and educational activities concerning women’s hormonal health, pregnancy, maternal wellbeing, and the safe use of medications during pregnancy and lactation.
Together, the University’s healthcare and educational framework enables students to access reliable health information, guidance and appropriate pathways to further care when required.
Supporting Student Mental Health
Psychological wellbeing forms an important part of student support at Al-Ameed University. The Psychological Counselling and Educational Guidance Department supports students in addressing psychological, educational, social and personal challenges that may affect their university experience and academic progress.
Students have access to individual and group counselling, preventive and therapeutic guidance, and support relating to anxiety, depression, family difficulties and social challenges. These counselling and psychological-support services are available to students free of charge.
Alongside direct counselling, the University promotes positive mental health through educational and awareness programmes addressing psychological resilience, stress management, personal development and adjustment to academic and social life.
This approach reflects the University’s broader commitment to ensuring that students receive support not only in their academic development, but also in the personal and psychological factors that contribute to their success.
Supporting Staff Health and Wellbeing
The same institutional commitment extends to University staff. A healthy and supportive working environment is recognised as an important part of staff wellbeing, professional performance and the quality of the wider educational environment.
During 2025, staff wellbeing activities addressed areas including psychological self-care, emotional intelligence, work-related stress, burnout prevention and management, work–family balance, and general psychological wellbeing.
Staff have access to free mental-health support activities and services, alongside additional specialist services where applicable. Broader healthcare support is also facilitated through arrangements that provide reduced-cost treatment and medication at affiliated healthcare institutions.
Through this integrated approach to healthcare, health education and psychological wellbeing, Al-Ameed University seeks to maintain an environment in which students and staff are supported academically, professionally and personally, recognising health and wellbeing as essential foundations for individual success and institutional development.
