Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Ameed University, Professor Dr. Uday Abdul Redha Al-Rikabi, the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Department and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Department, organized an awareness and educational symposium titled "The Effects of Drugs on Individuals and Society" on Monday, December 2, 2024. The event was held in Imam Al-Mujtaba Hall (peace be upon him) within the university campus, in the presence of the Dean, academic and administrative staff, and a number of students.
The symposium was delivered by the Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department, Assistant Lecturer Dr. Ali Hamid Abdul-Hussein. It covered various key topics, including the types of drugs, methods of addiction, prevention strategies, and efforts to combat drug use. The speaker also highlighted the importance of spreading awareness within society, particularly among youth, to minimize the psychological and physical harm caused by drug abuse. Dr. Abdul-Hussein emphasized the critical importance of educating young people about the dangers of experimenting with drugs even once, noting that this initial act, often driven by curiosity or the desire for new experiences, could lead to addiction and the devastating consequences that follow for both individuals and society.
This symposium is part of a series of initiatives organized by Al-Ameed University to enhance societal awareness and protect young generations from the threats that endanger their health and future.
