As part of its ongoing commitment to social and humanitarian services, Al-Ameed University organized a healthcare workshop titled “Al-Zahraa's Gift for Healing Hearts,” in collaboration with the Mercy Childhood Care Foundation. The workshop was held on the university campus late last week.

The workshop aimed to offer free medical care to orphaned children from charitable organizations in Karbala Province. A specialized medical team conducted examinations for 127 individuals, including 124 children and 3 adults.

This initiative reflects the university’s dedication to supporting low-income and marginalized groups by involving medical students in humanitarian activities. The students played a vital role in facilitating the medical examinations and distributing small gifts to the children, helping to strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and alleviate the children’s fear and anxiety towards medical procedures.

Assistant Professor Dr. Lamia Abdul Karim Darwish, director of the workshop, vice-chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, and clinical program director at the College of Medicine, noted that some cases require surgical intervention. The university has coordinated with the relevant authorities to ensure that these cases receive the necessary care. Families expressed their gratitude to the university and the Mercy Foundation for this humanitarian initiative.

In conclusion, the university administration presented plaques and certificates of appreciation to the contributors of the workshop, particularly the chairwoman of the Mercy Childhood Care Foundation and its members, in recognition of their efforts in making the workshop a success.

It is worth noting that Al-Ameed University’s vision stems from the broader mission of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, embodied in its commitment to never delay any service in the public interest, particularly those targeting impoverished groups in Iraqi society.
