Under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashamy, and in cooperation with the Martyrs Foundation, our university held its first annual festival to combat violent extremism today, Wednesday, 18/2/2026. The event took place in the Imam Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Hall, and was attended by the University Assistant President for Administrative and Legal Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Kareem Abdul Rahim, and the Acting University Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Lamia Abdul Kareem. Also in attendance were a number of college deans, directors of scientific and administrative departments, academic and official figures, and a gathering of faculty members and students.
The organization of the festival comes within the framework of enhancing the community partnership between our university and the Martyrs Foundation. It aims to consolidate the values of moderation, reject extremist thought, and commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs who gave their lives in defense of the homeland in the face of terrorism and violence.
The festival included awareness and cultural segments that emphasized the importance of spreading a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. It highlighted the pivotal role of academic institutions in intellectually immunizing youth and building responsible awareness, which contributes to protecting society from manifestations of extremism and intellectual deviation. The event also stressed the commitment to preparing a conscious generation carrying deep-rooted national values, who believes in dialogue and moderation as a path to building a safe and stable future.
