Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at our university, Professor Dr. Dhiyaa Kareem Al-Bayati, the Adult Nursing Department organized a distinctive, first-of-its-kind training activity within the Health Assessment course. The session was designed to train students on patient history-taking skills using artificial intelligence-powered virtual patient technology, in a step aimed at enhancing their readiness for clinical training in hospitals.
The activity took place in the computer laboratory with direct follow-up from the leadership of the Adult Nursing Department and the academic staff, represented by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Mohammed Hussein, Academic Nurse Yassin Kifah Abdul-Razzaq, and Academic Nurse Ali Jaafar Ali. This opportunity enabled students to engage in dialogue with a virtual patient, practice gathering clinical information, and document medical histories within an interactive educational environment that simulates real clinical settings.
Evaluation forms distributed following the session revealed high satisfaction levels among students, who expressed increased self-confidence and improved engagement with training requirements compared to traditional educational methods. The college deanship confirmed its intention to expand the adoption of this technology to include further courses and academic levels in the future, in line with its vision to advance nursing education and keep pace with technological advancements in the healthcare sector.
The event concluded with a letter of appreciation issued by the college deanship to the organizers, in recognition of their efforts in delivering an innovative educational initiative that enhances student competencies and opens new avenues for integrating artificial intelligence into the training of qualified nursing personnel.
