The College of Nursing, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at Al-Ameed University, held a scientific workshop entitled “The Scientific Peer Reviewer for Reputable Academic Journals.” The workshop was conducted under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Diaa Karim Al-Bayati, with the participation of the Academic and Administrative Assistant Deans. The two-day workshop was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alawi Al-Ghanami, a faculty member at the College, and was attended by a distinguished group of professors from the university’s colleges.
The first day of the workshop addressed several core themes within the scientific peer-review system, including an overview of peer-review mechanisms, the ethical role of the scientific reviewer in ensuring research integrity, methods of critical evaluation of scientific manuscripts, professional report-writing skills for reviewers, and the development of a strong professional identity for peer reviewers. The workshop also reviewed the most important internationally recognized tools and guidelines in this field, such as COPE, ICMJE, and EQUATOR.
The second day was distinguished by an interactive practical application (simulation exercise) involving the peer review of a real scientific article. This activity contributed to refining participants’ analytical and critical skills and effectively linking theoretical concepts with practical application.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities through which Al-Ameed University seeks to enhance the quality of scientific research, institutionalize academic peer-review practices in accordance with international standards, and build a generation of researchers and reviewers capable of making meaningful contributions to reputable scientific journals.
