In a groundbreaking achievement—the first of its kind among Iraqi medical colleges—the College of Medicine at Al-Ameed University has adopted the Peer Teaching Program (PTP), becoming the first college to launch this program with such a high level of organization and interaction. The program began at the start of the 2024–2025 academic year and saw wide engagement from student instructors in the fourth and fifth years, as well as student learners from the first through third years. Results from a survey conducted among participants showed a positive evaluation, with more than 85% rating the program as excellent or good.
During a special ceremony, the college honored 34 student instructors who participated in the program with certificates of participation and letters of appreciation from the Dean’s Office. The event was attended by the Acting Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Hassan Nasrallah; the Administrative Assistant, Dr. Sattar Jabbar Rahi; and the Director of the Medical Education Unit, Dr. Hussam Al-Zuwaini. The program was supervised daily by the Dean’s Office and the Scientific Assistant, Dr. Ali Dhu Al-Fiqar Al-Bassam, along with the college demonstrators: Dr. Hajar, Dr. Tabarak, and Dr. Mustafa.
The establishment of the program resulted from cooperation between the Medical Education Unit and the Medical Student Club, represented by student Mohammed Risan Faisal. Over 350 student learners and 30 student instructors participated in the program, with instructors selected based on their academic competence and communication skills. They utilized modern and diverse educational tools. The student learners called for the continuation of the program and suggested activating it during the summer break, with the possibility of involving student instructors as teaching assistants.
