The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology focuses on teaching the basic physiological concepts of the various organs of the human body, teaching the action of drugs and their effects on the body, and discovering their interactions, side effects, and toxicity. It also focuses on teaching and understanding the toxic mechanisms of many drugs and chemicals in order to avoid and prevent the harm resulting from their use.
Vision:
To develop pharmacists with pharmaceutical expertise that enables them to provide scientific pharmaceutical advice, monitor drug action in the body, and determine appropriate drug dosages for patients to ensure drug effectiveness and reduce drug toxicity and side effects.
Mission:
The department's mission is based on understanding the mechanisms by which drugs affect the cells of living organisms, in addition to studying the harmful effects of chemical, physical, biological, and toxic agents on living organisms and ecosystems.
Objectives:
1. Preparing and qualifying pharmacists in all pharmaceutical specialties and providing hospitals, poison centers, and pharmaceutical industries with specialized personnel in various fields of pharmacy.
2. Promoting a culture of proper medication use in society by holding seminars and issuing pamphlets that highlight the dangers of misuse of medications, in addition to clarifying the dangers of environmental toxins and their health and economic impacts.
3. Developing the level of scientific research in the field of drugs and toxins and establishing the scientific laboratories necessary for scientific research, along with the continuous development of the levels of faculty members and technicians working in the college through continuing education programs.
