The department aims to familiarize college students with the types of medicinal plants and study them in terms of classification, form, identification of their active therapeutic components and medical effects, and linking pharmaceutical products to classified chemical compounds, in addition to studying other natural sources of medicines.

To educate students on the importance of products derived from medicinal plants and their role in biomedicine, as well as how to extract, isolate, purify, and classify active ingredients, and evaluate their therapeutic efficacy and side effects.
