The College of Dentistry at our university organized a scientific workshop titled "CiteScore How to Calculate a Journal's Citation Score," presented by Assistant Lecturer Al-Hussein Nasrallah. The workshop was attended by several faculty members and students interested in scientific publishing and the evaluation criteria for reputable journals.
The workshop provided a detailed explanation of the mechanism for calculating the CiteScore for scientific journals through the Scopus database. It is calculated by dividing the total number of citations received by the journal over four years by the number of documents published (including articles and reviews) during the same period.
It also addressed the key differences between CiteScore and the Impact Factor. The former is characterized by adopting a longer period of four years compared to two years for the Impact Factor, as well as its inclusion of a wider range of scientific document types, and it is updated annually by Elsevier.
The lecturer demonstrated the mechanism for identifying the classification and rankings of scientific journals (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) by searching the Scopus Sources website, emphasizing the importance of these indicators in selecting appropriate journals for publication and enhancing the quality of scientific research.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities that the college is keen to organize, aiming to develop researchers' skills and elevate the level of academic publishing.
