The Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine, in Collaboration with Al-Ameed University, Organizes the 5th International “Maraqi Al-Mujtaba” (PBUH) Classical Arabic Poetry (Qaseeda Amoudiya) Competition

The Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine, represented by the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with Al-Ameed University, organized today, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the fifth edition of the Maraqi Al-Mujtaba (Peace Be Upon Him) International Classical Poetry Competition (Qaseeda Amoudiya), held at the Imam Hassan (Peace Be Upon Him) Hall, under the slogan: “Poetry Prostrated to the Wearers of Al-Aba… When It Prayed in the Maraqi of Al-Mujtaba.”

The competition’s events were attended by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine, Mr. Abbas Mousa Ahmed; Board Member Dr. Afdhal Al-Shami; President of Al-Ameed University, Prof. Dr. Joudat Nouri Al-Jashaami; Head of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Aqeel Al-Yasiri; Director of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the University, Prof. Dr. Hassanein Adnan Murtadha; and Director of the Media and Government Communication Department, Assistant Prof. Dr. Jasim Mohsen Al-Sultani, in addition to a group of Hawza scholars, academic figures, and a distinguished selection of participating poets.

This edition of the competition witnessed the participation of (59) poems representing seven Arab and Islamic countries: Iraq, Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. After the evaluation and judging of the entries by a specialized jury panel, ten poems were selected for the final stage.

The ten winning poets recited their poems before the audience, and the competition concluded with an honoring ceremony conducted by the organizing committee. Shields of excellence and certificates of appreciation were presented by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Al-Abbas’s Holy Shrine, the Board Member, and the President of Al-Ameed University.

This event aligns with the University’s vision of being a comprehensive scientific and cultural platform that contributes to the support of intellectual creativity alongside its academic mission. The participating poems served as an artistic reflection conveying the thoughts and values of Ahlulbayt (Peace Be Upon Them), embodying a profound sense of belonging to their spiritual and ethical heritage.
