Under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research - Department of Supervision and Scientific Evaluation, and under the supervision of the President of Al-Ameed University, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashaami, the National Council for the Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq organized a workshop today, Thursday, October 31, 2024. The workshop, titled “Supporting the Accreditation Process in Medical Colleges,” was held in the Imam Al-Mujtaba (Peace be upon him) Hall at Al-Ameed University. The event was attended by the university president, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashaami, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Ali Dhulfiqar Al-Bassam, and several faculty members, students, and administrative staff.
The workshop began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the playing of the Iraqi National Anthem and the anthem of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, known as “The Anthem of Pride.” Prof. Dr. Ali Dhulfiqar Al-Bassam then delivered a welcoming address, in which he commended the efforts of the National Council and the President of Al-Ameed University. He also welcomed members of the self-assessment committees from various Iraqi medical colleges, emphasizing the importance of academic accreditation in enhancing faculty competency, achieving quality, and promoting the exchange of expertise and knowledge in line with international standards.
The workshop included an address by Assistant Prof. Dr. Hilal Bahjat Al-Saffar, Deputy Chair of the National Council, who discussed the council's establishment and the stages of accreditation application submissions by Iraqi universities, noting that the council received global recognition on February 21, 2024.
Several specialized lectures were delivered by members of the National Council during the workshop. Prof. Dr. Ihsan Mohammed Ajeena discussed academic accreditation, report preparation, and accreditation procedures, while Prof. Dr. Adel Hassan Al-Hindawi explained methods for cataloging and organizing documents. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Talib Jawad Kazem provided a detailed presentation on the application processes for accreditation, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Hilal Bahjat Al-Saffar presented valuable insights on lessons learned from the accreditation process, ways to succeed in it, and the objectives of the workshop, which included guidance on report writing, document indexing, and submission methods.
An open discussion session followed, allowing National Council members and attendees from various universities to engage in a dialogue, with questions focusing on accreditation mechanisms and ways to reinforce them.
The workshop concluded with remarks by Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashaami, President of Al-Ameed University, who stressed the importance of embracing the concept of academic accreditation, noting that adopting this approach reflects a positive understanding of accreditation's role in advancing educational institutions. He also expressed gratitude to the members of the National Council and all attendees, appreciating the council's efforts in supporting Iraq’s healthcare and medical institutions.
At the close of the event, the university president presented letters of appreciation to the members of the National Council in recognition of their contributions in holding this valuable workshop. The council members, in turn, expressed their thanks to the university president and the Al-Ameed University team, acknowledging the university’s role in enhancing the educational environment in Iraq.
