Launching the First Pioneering Event for Project-Based Learning and Interprofessional Learning for Medical Group Students

Under the auspices of the University President, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashamy, and the supervision of the Scientific Assistant, Asst. Prof. Dr. Lamiaa Abdul Kareem, the first Iraqi event of its kind for Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Interprofessional Learning (IPL) was held, with the participation of students from the medical group colleges, in a step aimed at enhancing multidisciplinary teamwork and addressing community health challenges.

This event came with scientific and organizational support from the Family and Community Medicine Branch and the Medical Education Unit, and under the supervision of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit. It witnessed the holding of an interactive student conference during which students presented scientific posters addressing real-life health issues, including smoking, antibiotic misuse, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), in addition to other health problems.

The event supervisor, Asst. Prof. Dr. Lamiaa Abdul Kareem, confirmed that it represents a qualitative leap in the path of medical education in Iraq, pointing out that it enhances students' skills in scientific research and teamwork, and supports the university's orientation towards adopting the latest active learning methods. A number of participating professors praised the students' level, emphasizing the importance of this approach in preparing health staff capable of effective professional cooperation.

The event witnessed remarkable academic attendance and wide interaction from the students. It concluded with the evaluation of the presented scientific projects, emphasizing the continuation of these initiatives and expanding their scope in the future, which contributes to the development of medical education and serving the community.
