The Pharmaceutical Chemistry Branch at the College of Pharmacy in our university, under the supervision of its Dean, Prof. Dr. Uday Abdul-Ridha Hussein Al-Rikabi, organized a specialized workshop titled "Green Chemistry: Towards a Sustainable Future in the Pharmaceutical Industry." It was presented by Dr. Abbas Abdul-Ridha Muhaihi, during which he reviewed modern visions for integrating environmental standards into laboratory and research practices.
The workshop addressed a number of important themes, most notably promoting the concept of green chemistry as a scientific approach aimed at reducing chemical waste and limiting the use of toxic substances. Furthermore, it reviewed eco-friendly alternatives in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes in accordance with international environmental standards.
The workshop also highlighted Microwave-Assisted Chemical Synthesis technology as an advanced alternative to traditional methods, due to the advantages it offers in terms of reducing chemical reaction times, lowering energy consumption, increasing product purity, and minimizing the need for harmful organic solvents.
At the conclusion of the workshop, emphasis was placed on the importance of supporting scientific research and encouraging students and researchers to adopt research projects based on the principles of green chemistry, which contributes to achieving environmental sustainability and developing the pharmaceutical industry.
