The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, has been crowned as the Arab Capital of Tourism for the year 2025, during the recent session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism, in a step considered a collective Arab recognition of the historical and cultural stature of the "City of Peace" (Madīnat al-Salām), and an acknowledgment of the profound civilizational legacy it holds in the collective memory of the Arab nation.
It has been decided that the official conference announcing this declaration will be held at the University of Baghdad, one of the most venerable academic institutions in Iraq and the region, affirming the synergy between scientific and cultural institutions in supporting this prominent Arab event.
The conference is expected to witness wide participation from representatives of the Ministries of Tourism and Culture across the Arab countries, alongside a distinguished group of experts and stakeholders in the tourism and cultural sectors. This comes as part of ongoing efforts to showcase Iraq’s civilizational face and enhance its standing on the Arab tourism map.
This milestone is viewed as a strategic opportunity to re-highlight Baghdad as a capital of culture and humanity, contributing to the revitalization of the tourism sector, stimulating investment, creating job opportunities, and supporting the national economy's growth in the coming phase.
