The activities of the Sixth International Maraqi Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Competition for Classical Poetry, organized by the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, commenced in the Imam Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) Hall under the slogan: "Poetry ascends above the crown of time... as it hopes in Allah through the love of Al-Hassan." The event was organized by the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Holy Shrine, in cooperation with The University of Alameed.
Representing our university at the competition's activities were the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashamy, and the Dean of the College of Basic Education for Girls, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sabeeh Al-Kaabi. This was alongside the presence of the Head of the Higher Education and Education Authority and member of the Board of Directors of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Deda Al-Mousawi; Dr. Afdal Al-Shami; a number of academic and cultural figures; and an elite group of participating poets from within and outside Iraq.
The competition's activities commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the address of the General Secretariat of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, delivered by the Head of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, Sayyid Aqeel Al-Yasiri. In his speech, he emphasized that the competition represents a cultural and literary project seeking to consolidate the biography of Imam Al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) in the conscience through authentic classical poetry, which has preserved its presence as a vessel for Islamic and human values.
The sixth edition of the competition witnessed broad participation from poets representing a number of Arab and Islamic countries, as 46 poems competed by poets from Iraq, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. The works underwent evaluation by a specialized scientific jury that adopted precise standards regarding linguistic correctness, quality of artistic structure, depth of idea, authenticity of poetic imagery, and the degree of connection to the personality of Imam Al-Hassan Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him).
The ceremony included recitations of the winning poems by their authors amidst a distinguished academic and cultural audience. The activities concluded with honoring the top winners, with the participation of the President of our university, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashamy, alongside several officials from the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine.
Our university's participation in organizing this cultural event comes as a reaffirmation of its role in supporting scientific and literary activities, and strengthening partnership with the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine and its institutions in holding events that contribute to reviving authentic Islamic heritage, consolidating intellectual and cultural values, and supporting the Arabic poetic movement.
