Al-Ameed University Launches Iraq’s First Workshop on Peer-Assisted Learning in Medical Education in Collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians Fellows Network

This morning, Thursday, September 11, 2025, Al-Ameed University inaugurated a distinguished workshop titled: “Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL): Principles and Practice in Medical Education”, organized by the College of Medicine at the university in cooperation with the Royal College of Physicians – Iraq Network (RCP-Iraq Network). The event was held in the presence of the University Presidency, the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq, the Deanery of the College of Medicine, along with a select group of academics and students.

The opening session took place in the Imam Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Hall on campus, beginning with a blessed recitation from the Holy Qur’an and the reading of Surah Al-Fatiha in memory of Iraq’s martyrs, followed by the playing of the Iraqi National Anthem and the anthem of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, “Melody of Pride.”

In his opening address, President of Al-Ameed University, Prof. Dr. Judat Nouri Al-Jashaami, welcomed the participating delegations, affirming that the university has always been a pioneer in hosting and supporting reputable scientific and medical conferences and workshops. He praised the efforts of the College of Medicine in keeping pace with the latest global developments in medical education.

For his part, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Hassan Nasrallah, explained that this workshop is the first of its kind in Iraq and aims to equip senior clinical medical students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to actively engage in PAL programs, whether as peer teachers or learners.

Prof. Dr. Yusra Abdul Rahman, Chairperson of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges in Iraq, delivered a speech commending Al-Ameed University’s pioneering initiative in organizing this workshop. Prof. Dr. Hilal Al-Saffar, Head of the RCP Fellows Network in Iraq, stressed that the goal is to prepare a generation of medical leaders capable of advancing the mission of medical development in Iraq.

The session also featured an introductory video presentation about the university and another highlighting the activities of the College of Medicine, followed by the launch of the workshop’s scientific program. The program included lectures and specialized sessions delivered by Prof. Dr. Nizar Haddad, Prof. Dr. Batool Ali Ghalib, Asst. Prof. Dr. Basim Nadhir, Prof. Dr. Hussam Al-Zuweini, and Prof. Dr. Hilal Al-Saffar.

The workshop hosts more than 120 male and female students from various Iraqi universities, spanning the country from north to south, and will continue over two days, September 11–12, 2025.
