Our college has officially adopted the Educational Outcomes for Iraqi Medical Colleges, which were approved by other stakeholders (The Iraqi Medical Syndicate, 2019-2020 *1 ).
These outcomes are structured into three major domains and focus on the following key competencies:
I. Outcomes One - Doctor as a Scholar and Scientist (Knowledge)
Graduates must demonstrate the ability to:
• Apply biomedical scientific principles, methods, and knowledge to medical practice.
• Utilize psychological principles, methods, and knowledge in medical practice .
• Apply social science principles, methods, and knowledge to medical practice.
• Integrate principles of population health and improvement of healthcare into medical practice.
• Utilize scientific methods and approaches in medical research.
II. Outcomes Two - The Doctor as a Practitioner (Skills)
Graduates must be able to:
• Conduct patient consultations, including taking medical histories, performing physical and mental-state examinations, and involving patients in decision-making.
• Diagnose and manage clinical presentations .
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues across various medical contexts
• Provide immediate care in medical emergencies.
• Prescribe medications safely, effectively and economically
• Carry out practical procedures safely and effectively.
• Use information effectively in a medical context.
III. Outcomes Three - The Doctor as a Professional (Attitudes)
Graduates must exhibit professionalism through:
• Professional and ethical responsibilities, adhering to medical ethics, patient confidentiality, and integrity in practice.
• Legal responsibilities, understanding medical laws, informed consent, and patient rights.
• Patient safety and quality improvement, identifying and preventing medical errors, implementing infection control measures, and enhancing healthcare quality.
• Managing complexity and uncertainty, recognize and develop confidence in managing these situations and responding to change.
• Safeguarding vulnerable patients, recognizing signs of abuse or neglect and taking appropriate protective actions.
• Leadership and teamwork, collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary healthcare teams and assuming leadership roles when needed.
By adhering to these educational outcomes, our college ensures that graduates are competent, ethical, and well-prepared to meet the demands of modern medical practice and contribute to the advancement of healthcare in Iraq and beyond.
