The activities of the International Al-Noor University Qur’anic Competition commenced this morning, Monday, October 13, 2025, at Al-Ameed University. The competition is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the participation of 23 hosting universities and 53 Iraqi and international universities from various countries around the world, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Lebanese Republic, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Tunisian Republic.
The opening ceremony witnessed distinguished official attendance, represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Scientific Qur’anic Complex of the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine, along with the presidency of Al-Ameed University and representatives of the participating universities.
The ceremony began with a blessed recitation from the Holy Qur’an, performed by Muhammad Ridha Al-Zaidi, the reciter and muezzin of the two Holy Shrines, followed by the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah in honor of the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. This was succeeded by the playing of the Iraqi National Anthem and the Anthem of Pride (Nasheed Al-Ibaa) of the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine.
Prof. Dr. Maytham Hameed Al-Qanbar, the Assistant President of Al-Ameed University for Scientific Affairs, delivered the university’s address, in which he welcomed the guests and participants. He affirmed that hosting this international Qur’anic event represents a great scientific and spiritual responsibility, embodying the role of Iraqi universities in serving the Holy Qur’an and promoting faith-based values among students.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ammar Hamed Hadi, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of this competition in enhancing scientific and cultural communication between Iraqi universities and their international counterparts through the Holy Qur’an.
Additionally, Prof. Dr. Alaa Al-Mousawi, Assistant President of the Scientific Qur’anic Complex of the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine, expressed his gratitude to Al-Ameed University for its excellent organization and warm reception, praising its efforts in ensuring the success of this blessed Qur’anic academic gathering.
The opening ceremony concluded with the exchange of shields of appreciation between the university and the ministry, and with the honoring of the hosting universities in recognition of their contributions to the success of this blessed event.
