Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy Serves as Member of Doctoral Defense Committee at Al-Mustansiriyah University on Leishmaniasis Treatment

Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy at University of Al-Ameed, Prof. Dr. Uday Abdul-Redha Hussein Al-Rikabi, participated as a member of a Ph.D. dissertation defense committee at the College of Pharmacy, Mustansiriyah University. The dissertation, titled "Potential Treatment of Leishmaniasis by Inhibiting Poly(A)-Binding Protein (PABP) Using ApPABP#11 Aptamer," was submitted by Ph.D. candidate Hayman Abdul-Basit Tawfeeq, specializing in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The defense took place in the Postgraduate Studies Hall at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, Mustansiriyah University.

The study aimed to evaluate the ability of the AP-11 aptamer to disrupt the interaction between the Poly(A) tail and its binding protein PABP in the Leishmania donovani parasite, relying on the culture of promastigote and amastigote stages, as well as an intracellular infection model within RAW 264.7 macrophages.
